Levara is a hiking and nature-trail app for Madeira, Portugal. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have. We designed Levara to collect as little as possible and never to sell your data.

Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and any display name and home town you choose to add to your profile. This is used to sign you in and to power the community features (so other hikers can recognise you). You can use much of the app without an account.
Location
With your permission, Levara uses your device's precise GPS location to:
- show your position on the trail map and guide you along the route;
- estimate how far you have left to your destination and your current altitude;
- power the emergency (SOS) feature — filling in your coordinates when you choose to call 112 or send a help message; and
- share your live location with a link only when you choose to start a Live Share, so a friend or family member can follow your hike.
Your location is used on your device for navigation and SOS. It is sent to our servers only while a Live Share session is active, so the person with your link can see you move; when you stop sharing, live updates stop. We do not track your location in the background or when the app is closed.
Your trail photos
Photos you add to a trail are stored on your device. If you are signed in, they are also backed up to your own private cloud folder so you can restore them on a new phone. Only you can access your photos — they are not shared with other users or made public.
Community content
If you use the community features, we store the people you follow, the group walks you create or join, and the messages you post in a group chat, so those features work and other members of a walk can see them.
Technical information
Like most apps, Levara needs basic device and app information (such as app version and general device type) to run reliably and fix problems.
What we do NOT do
- We do not show advertising.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
Service providers we use
Levara relies on a small number of trusted services to work:
- Supabase — stores your account, profile, community content and photo backups. Data is hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).
- Esri — provides the map and satellite imagery tiles.
- Open-Meteo — provides the terrain elevation data used for the elevation graph.
- GitHub Pages — hosts the web page a friend opens to watch your Live Share.
These providers process data only to deliver their part of the service.
Payments and subscriptions
Levara offers paid subscriptions (Scout and Pro). Payments are handled by the app store (Google Play / Apple App Store) — we do not see or store your card or bank details.
Keeping your data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Live-location data is only kept for the active sharing session. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the email above; we will remove it within a reasonable period.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us at the email above.
Children
Levara is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
